🔧 FIREPLACE INSTALLATION TECHNICIAN

Brief Description:

This is an on-the-job training program to become a certified chimney sweep and fireplace installer. A successful candidate for this position has an interest in the basics of electrical, gas, and carpentry, and can read and understand manuals.

The first 6-12 months of this program is designed for learning while on the job. Within this first year, a candidate must be available for a week-long training at the Chimney Sweep Institute in Plainfield, Indiana as well as a week-long training at a fireplace training (location and dates tbd). This is a two-year program, which means if a candidate would leave the organization before the completion of the program, they would need to reimburse Schlemmer’s for their Chimney Sweep school & fireplace training.

Candidate must be available to work a minimum of 5 full days a week (8:00 – 4:00 pm) as well as some Saturdays (8:45 – 1:15) during heating season. Upon completion of the first year and successfully completing Chimney Sweep Institute training, a pay increase would occur.

We are looking for a person who is not afraid of heights, is detail oriented and thorough, and comfortable with power tools, has a positive attitude, and self-motivated. Installations range daily between wood/gas/and pellet stoves/inserts/fireplaces.

Responsibilities:

● Learn to install fireplace units according to safety requirements, standards, and code

● Stay up to date on current technologies and products

● Properly connect units into gas lines, venting, and hook ups

● Properly and efficiently document installations

● Review upcoming jobs, pull jobs for the coming week, and meet regularly with Project Manager

● Responsible for company work vehicle, tools, and equipment inventory, and ensuring it is clean and organized

● Learns and complies to installation codes, knowledgeable in level 1 and 2 chimney inspections

● Learns to identify chimney hazards including chimney fires

● Works well on a team and is a good communicator to both team and customers

● Uses technology provided to keep on top of jobs, records, upload findings, and communicate with team

● Has a positive attitude

● All other duties required


Qualifications & Requirements:

● Become certified chimney sweep within first year

● Attend weeklong factory training (out of state) within the first year

● Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy object and materials

● Valid Driver’s License with decent motor vehicle record

● Must be comfortable climbing onto roofs and working at heights of 20-50 feet. Working on and in chimneys.

Pay: $19-25/hr

⚙️ FIREPLACE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Brief Description:
This position is expected to assist with servicing fireplaces. Units include wood/pellet/gas stoves, wood and gas fireplaces, wood/gas/pellet inserts, and gas log installations.

A successful candidate has a background in service or construction and is comfortable with reading service manuals, understanding clearances to combustibles, and ensuring units are to code. They must also be able to look ahead at the schedule and stage jobs to prepare for the coming week. They are expected to communicate and work well with the service team and the Service Manager to discuss upcoming jobs.

A successful candidate should also be highly self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, as they must also check emails and schedule often. Schedule is typically Mondays – Fridays, 8 am – 4:00 pm. In the peak heating season (October – February), overtime and working an occasional Saturday are common.

Responsibilities:

● Receive and unload deliveries

● Service fireplace units according to safety requirements, standards, and code

● Pull jobs according to their job brief

● Stay up to date on current technology and product trainings

● Maintain high customer satisfaction by addressing any questions, concerns, or issues the customer may have during installation

● Properly connect units to gas lines, venting, and electrical

● Properly and efficiently document service jobs

● Order service parts

● Review upcoming jobs, stage jobs for the coming week, and meet regularly with Service Manager

● Responsible for company work vehicle, tools, and equipment inventory, and ensuring it is clean and organized

● Can identify and document chimney hazards including chimney fires

● Works well on a team and is a good communicator to both team and customers

● Understand the difference between a level 1 & level 2 chimney inspection, basics of how to service all units

● May be required to help install units, depending on the

● Uses technology provided to keep on top of jobs, records, upload findings, and communicate with team

● Has a positive attitude

● All other duties required

● Attend weeklong factory training (out of state) within the first year (paid by Schlemmers)

● Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy object and materials

● Valid Driver’s License with decent motor vehicle record

● Must be comfortable climbing onto roofs/ladders and working at heights of 20-50 feet. Working on and in chimneys.

● 2-5 years construction experience (preferred)

● 2-5 years of gas line experience (preferred)

● 1 year of electrical experience (preferred)

Pay: $19- $25/hr starting, with opportunity for advancement after training
